THE IMPORTANCE OF PREVENTION ACCORDING TO CHINESE MEDICINE

In ancient China, the concept of prevention is well expressed by the traditional definition YANG SHENG, “art of nurturing life.” Yang Sheng includes all actions aimed at guarding, safeguarding and strengthening health. LONGEVITY in Chinese thought is not only to live a long time, but above all to LIVE WELL, safeguarding the energetic inheritance received at birth (JING, vital energy), following the laws of the universe and maintaining a state of balance.

For Chinese culture, each person has their health as their first RESPONSIBILITY, understood in an exhaustive and global way, not only as the absence of symptoms or diseases, but as the DEVELOPMENT of ALL their POTENTIALITY. In addition to eating well, doing physical activity, respecting the rhythms of activity and rest.. Yang Sheng refers to the spiritual search for one’s own AUTHENTIC NATURE, which answers the question “Who am I?”, “What am I doing here?” Even more so in choices and actions, we get closer to our true nature, the more we are able to preserve our own vital energy, in fact following the rhythms of life, like the ebb and flow of the sea, like exhalation and breathing.

By inhaling the vital breath, we simply become capable of LETTING LIFE FLOW in its purest sense, so knowing how to do it is the maintenance of life. Let’s not forget to observe the seasons and adapt to heat and cold; harmonize joy, anger and sadness and be calm in rest as in action.

In this way, having warded off the arrival of the perverse (internal and external adverse events, n.d.e), your life will be long.” – Lingshu chapter 8 – THEREFORE I INVITE YOU TO REFLECT: taking care of yourself is not necessary wait for the blood tests to have abnormal values, or for a clinically detectable pathology to appear. We can take care of ourselves EVERY DAY, asking ourselves “How do I feel?”, “Am I satisfied with my life?”, “Do I like myself the way I am?” ?”, etc.

Developing balance and love towards ourselves, towards the environment and towards others, taking responsibility for our own choices, means realizing that it is possible to change IF WE ONLY WANT TO. CHOOSE TO FEEL GOOD, without settling for the comment of a doctor or other professional who, looking at the evidence, tells us “You are healthy as a fish!” and yet… and yet… something is not felt! right inside us. And thank God! Life is much more.

We are surrounded by FALSE NEEDS, but if on the contrary, we begin to understand that we are capable of doing without many things, perhaps we can discover what it really means to FEEL GOOD and BE HAPPY.

As a nutritionist, I realize that for many people, eating healthy is considered uninteresting, boring and unrewarding. Nothing could be more wrong! How does eating junk food and paying little attention to the quality of what we eat make us happy people? I think it’s more a sign of a deep malaise, the belief that you NEED to regularly resort to certain foods. What if instead we committed to recovering the sensory perception of real foods?

And perhaps prepare them with love, using colors, flavors, recovering the pleasure of experimenting, of savoring, of enjoying what we eat, of making conscious purchases, to RECOGNIZE THE VALUE of those vegetables harvested in the field, of those chicken eggs ” happy” that scratch themselves, of that fish caught in our seas, of that animal raised in the pastures under the sun, of that fruit grown on trees with edible skin, of those legumes not treated with pesticides, of those spices and aromatic herbs water in our garden..

To be GRATEFUL, avoiding waste, eating less and more quality. Many people don’t even feel real flavors anymore, they are so used to eating badly. So as I always say… HABITS ARE DAMAGED, EXCEPTIONS ARE NOT! This is also balance.

Nurturing the JING, the vital energy, and preserving health means recovering LISTENING TO SELF, the ability to SELF-REGULATE, to recognize REAL NEEDS, respecting ourselves and life. It means PREVENT not out of fear but to fully enjoy life. Thanks for reading this far.

CELLULITE: CAN SOMETHING BE DONE?

Cellulite is a condition, predominantly but not exclusively female, that affects adipose tissue in various areas of the body.

It is produced by the degeneration of microcirculation in adipose tissue, whose adipocytes tend to increase in volume while fluid tends to accumulate in the intercellular spaces (water retention).

Over time, adipocytes are damaged, causing the fat contained in them to leak and the subsequent inflammatory, dystrophic and involutional processes of the surrounding tissue.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, two different types of cellulite are identified:

-COMPACT CELLULITE, which manifests itself as small, hard and sunken masses.

-SOFT CELLULITE, with large, flat, soft masses that move if the person goes from an upright position to a lying position.

In Chinese medicine, cellulite is considered an accumulation of Yin fluids, more or less markedly associated with a stasis of blood circulation and Qi, the energy that according to the Chinese circulates throughout the body through channels called Meridians and that In its movement it also transports blood.

Therefore, it can derive from: – a biotypological predisposition, that is, from a person with a decidedly YIN constitution;

-due to inadequate nutrition, which generates an accumulation of internal humidity derived from foods that promote humidification (soft cellulite), or due to the combination of internal humidity accumulation and excess of astringent and acidic foods (hard and compact cellulite);

-of conditions in which a stasis of the Liver Qi negatively influences the movement of the Earth (Spleen and Stomach), inhibiting the functions of the Spleen in the metabolization of moisture, with a preponderance of emotional stasis and excess rumination, with a “poor digestion of thoughts”.

Therefore, in addition to Tuina massage and the stimulation of specific points, it is necessary to know and understand what is the most useful eating style to help solve the problem.
