Flu and Moxibustion:

Flu is an acute respiratory infectious disease caused by a virus. When imbalances occur in the body, weakening the immune system, the pathogen attacks the body, affecting the normal functioning of organs, viscera, and meridians.

Chinese medicine is fundamentally preventive, and moxibustion is a widely used practice in this regard, thanks to its warming yang effect, which strengthens the body’s defense system.

The action of moxibustion on acupuncture points and meridians has an effect on:

– flu

– fatigue

– other flu symptoms.

Let’s now look at five key preventive measures with moxibustion:

-Zu San Li (ST 36 – Stomach Meridian)

The first point for strengthening the immune system: it acts on both the physical and mental levels.

Regulates and defends the body against pathogens; acts on the Spleen and Stomach to nourish the TRM with energy; regulates meridians and collaterals; expels wind and disperses dampness; helps the body rid itself of pathogens.

-Da Zui (GV 14 – Governing Vessels Meridian)

A very effective acupuncture point for calming the flu; regulates Yin and Yang; eliminates pathogens; prevents the flu; relieves headaches; and strengthens physical endurance.

-Quchi (Li 11 – Large Intestine Meridian)

Along with Da Zui, these are ideal points for strengthening the immune system. They have the functions of clearing heat; releasing external syndromes; relieving stiffness in tendons and muscles; Facilitates the circulation of energy in the meridians and collaterals.

-Fei Shu (BL 13 – Urinary Bladder Meridian)

Moxibustion at this point improves the condition of the lungs and respiratory system.

-He Gu (Li 4 – Large Intestine Meridian)

If moxibustion is used frequently at this point, it: relieves pain; regulates the flow of Qi and blood; purifies heat, disperses gas, and eliminates colds; cures the flu; relieves headaches; improves fever and aversion to cold.

We don’t get sick… by chance:

A person who is emotionally affected and wounded in the heart and soul is more likely to get sick.

This happens primarily because emotional wounds have the power to pierce our outer energetic mantle, like a sword can pierce clothing. This is the electromagnetic field of our microcosm that surrounds and protects us, just as gravity does for the macrocosm called Earth. These wounds, when transferred to the physical body, have the power to disrupt energy flows, reducing vitality. Depending on the type of wound, certain hormones will be inhibited and others will be activated, capable of inducing significant changes: fatigue, illness, dysfunction, pain, depression, etc.

This is how viruses, bacteria, and other things can find fertile ground in these low-energy conditions.

The most serious and toxic wounds are those of feeling “unaccepted,” “unwanted,” “rejected,” “undervalued,” “not considered,” “ignored,” “threatened in survival,” “suffered injustice,” etc.

But these emotional wounds don’t only come from the outside; the person themselves, prone to making despicable comparisons, self-loathing, self-destructive criticism, and lack of self-acceptance, etc., also has the power to harm themselves. All these wounds that arise from within have greater, particularly destructive, power because they “enter unopposed,” thus lacking self-defense; almost as if we think only an external person could have the power to harm us.

In fact, while it’s easy to remember events in which we were victims or felt overwhelmed by others due to a conflict or argument, we hardly ever remember a conflict or argument with ourselves.

These self-harms, which often go unnoticed, become subtle and perfidious.

They become postulates, self-truths with a powerful disabling power.

Chew, chew, chew:

To better understand the role of mastication on an energetic level, it is useful to consider the path of the main Stomach meridian, which begins at the midpoint of the lower edge of the orbit and continues downward, following the vertical extension of the pupil.

In the nasolabial fold, it deviates toward the philtrum to reach Renzhong (regulating vessels meridian GV26), then returns along the cheek and reaches Daying (stomach meridian E5), at the mandibular angle. From there, a facial branch originates, ascending to the temporomandibular joint and descending to the external nail commissure of the second toe.

Regarding the first section of the meridian, it is clear that the main stomach channel is related to mastication: it is probably no coincidence that it encompasses all the facial structures involved in the process of grinding food in a single, broad loop, from the cheeks to the temporomandibular joint, from the jaw to the masseter muscle.

Therefore, the location of the Stomach meridian demonstrates the importance of proper mastication in the digestive processes, which contribute to the function of the Earth Lodge, to which the Spleen-Pancreas/Stomach meridian pair belongs.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Earth Lodge, and specifically the function of the stomach, is responsible for the perception of satiety, and in fact, alterations in it can lead to loss of appetite or, conversely, bulimia.

According to tradition, chewing properly supports the function of the stomach, which is charged like a flywheel with the mechanical energy used to break down each bite, ensuring optimal digestion and regulating the feeling of satiety.
