Process Techniques: The Secret Heart of Jin Shin Do®
When treatment becomes self-discovery!
Those who practice bionatural disciplines know that bodywork goes far beyond the physical. Jin Shin Do® Bodymind Acupressure®, founded by Iona Marsaa Teeguarden, is an extraordinary method that combines gentle pressure on specific acupuncture points, with empathic listening and targeted emotional support.
At the heart of this approach are the Process Techniques, considered the true “jewel in the crown” of Jin Shin Do®.
They are essential tools to accompany people on a journey of inner discovery, which begins naturally when the body begins to release its deepest tensions.
Beyond Technique: The Art of Listening:
Process Techniques offer practitioners a way to communicate with those receiving treatment in a respectful, authentic, and empathetic manner. This approach perfectly blends work on energy points with simple, welcoming, and non-judgmental language, capable of facilitating release and creating a safe space where emotions, sensations, and memories can emerge and transform.
It’s not about psychotherapy, but about being fully present. It’s the art of being close to another, without intruding, using words that accompany and support the experience, moment by moment.
Body and psyche: a continuous dialogue.
Did you know that the term emotion comes from the Latin e-movere, meaning “to move out”? Emotions are energy in motion seeking expression. When this energy is blocked, the body reacts by forming “muscular armor,” chronic tensions and defenses that stiffen both the body and the inner life.
Through Process Techniques, one learns to give voice to these tensions. Body Focusing, for example, is a technique that invites the person to focus on a part of the body that feels tense, painful, or “blocked,” and to describe it with words, images, or sensations.
Surprisingly, what seemed like an enemy often turns out to have been a precious ally: a protective mechanism, developed at a time when it was the only possible response. Recognizing this positive intention can open the way to new, profound understandings and authentic release.
A gem that goes beyond technique:
This art of presence, deep listening, and emotional transformation is a true treasure for those working in the field of wellness and personal growth. The value of Process Techniques transcends the confines of Jin Shin Do®: it is a way of “being with others” that enriches every helping relationship.
As this discipline teaches, change begins with what is done with care, attention, and respect. Accompanying a person in their process of self-discovery makes each treatment a unique experience, an opportunity to become more aware, freer, and more authentic.

Relationship between the Spine and Internal Organs:
Each organ of the digestive system is correlated to specific segments of the spinal column, a widely used reference in approaches to body wellness and postural awareness.
Spine (lateral view).
On the left side, the cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and sacral vertebrae are visible, which serve as a guide to identifying connections with the internal organs.
Digestive Organs and Their Correspondence to the Vertebral Columns:
-Stomach.
Primary Relationship: T6–T9 Vertebrae.
Mid-upper Back.
Associated with digestion and food processing.
-Liver and gallbladder.
Relationship: T6–T9 vertebrae.
Located in the upper right abdomen.
Related to metabolism and internal balance.
-Pancreas.
Relationship: T6–L2 vertebrae.
Transition zone between the mid and lower back.
Associated with body regulation and energy.
-Spleen.
Relationship: T6–T8 vertebrae.
Associated with vitality and nutrient transformation.
-Small intestine.
Relationship: T8–T12 vertebrae.
Middle back.
Related to absorption and assimilation.
-Large intestine (colon).
Relationship: T10–L2 vertebrae.
-Lumbar spine.
Associated with the elimination and release of tension.
Body-Back Connection:
Postural tension or back stiffness can affect internal areas and vice versa.
Wellness Approach.
From a holistic perspective, working on spinal mobility, breathing, and relaxation helps to:
-Release tension;
-Improve body awareness;
-Promote internal balance;
-Harmoniously connect the back and organs.
Summary:
This illustrates the close relationship between the spine and the digestive organs, reminding us that the body functions as an integrated whole.
Listening to your back is also a way to care for your internal well-being.
