THE SHOULDER TRIANGLE

SI9 – Jianzhen (Vertical of the shoulder)

SI10 – Naoshu (Point of the humerus)

SI11 – Tianzong (Celestial Origin)

SI9 is located – with the arm adducted – on the posterior axillary line, 1 cun above the axillary fold; SI10, again with the arm adducted, on the posterior axillary line, in a depression located immediately below the spine of the scapula; finally, SI11 is located in the center of the infraspinous fossa of the scapula.

The main function of these three points is to remove obstructions from the Small Intestine meridian, circulate the Blood, benefit the tendons, disperse the external Wind and calm pain.

In clinical practice, these characteristics make them indispensable points for the treatment of shoulder obstruction syndromes, such as scapulohumeral periarthritis. Treated together, and with the combined stimulation of Tiaokou (ST38), they are very useful for reducing shoulder pain, especially that radiating posteriorly to the scapula, and for promoting mobility, with a specific action on the frozen shoulder. Jianzhen, Naoshu and Tianzong should be treated one after the other, with a rotation between the three, returning to stimulate them several times in the same session. The pressure must be progressive: it must not cause pain, but must be gradually deepened, supporting the relaxation of the tissues. Between one pressure and the next, it is useful to ask the patient to mobilize the upper limb: the movements will gradually become more fluid and ample. The stimulation should be continued until a satisfactory recovery of shoulder mobility in all directions.

The action of these points, especially in combination with ST38, is often surprising.

AGING AND TCM

The MC1R gene influences a person’s age and appearance.

After a certain age, a person may appear younger than they actually are. This is something everyone would like to flaunt. Not only because it is widely accepted socially or culturally, but also because of the significant biological benefits it brings, as research indicates that a person’s apparent age is associated with functional molecular markers in the body. Therefore, it is important for traditional ancestral medicine to understand the genetic and environmental factors that interact to make a person appear younger than their chronological age. This is undoubtedly useful for identifying effective therapies against aging.

The MC1R gene encodes the melanocortin 1 receptor, which is very important in skin and hair pigmentation. It has been discovered that this gene is also involved in reducing inflammation and repairing DNA damage.

To rejuvenate and prevent wrinkles, it is useful to take vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, collagen, glucosamine and selenium, keep the skin well hydrated and improve lung function, calm the mind. Even the multiple wrinkles that appear on the face are due to facial expressions and are a reflection of poor management of emotions.

In addition, to achieve the goal of rejuvenating the face and body, the following energy points will be necessary: 9 of Shou Tae Yin, 36 of Zu Yang Ming, 6 of Zu Tae Yin, 4 Ren Mai and Yin Tang.

Also include muscle exercises, both for the face and body.
