THE THEORY OF THE FIVE ELEMENTS:

It is a way of classifying natural phenomena and their interrelationships according to traditional Chinese philosophy. A more accurate translation would be five phases or five movements, to preserve its dynamic and transformative nature. The five elements are:

fire (, huǒ),

earth (, tǔ),

water (, shǔi),

metal (, jīn), and

wood (, mù).

The theory describes the cycles of generation (, shēng) and domination (, kè) between them.

Fire:

It is associated with the heart and the small intestine.

The corresponding flavor is bitter, the associated color is red, and its element is fire, or heat. People whose primary element is Fire communicate fluently. This element is associated with leaders, fame, cheerful people, and those with great verbal skills. An excess of this element can cause stress, violence, and mental agitation.

Earth:

It is associated with the spleen, pancreas, and stomach. The corresponding flavor is sweet, and its element is moisture. This element represents fertility and is associated with solid, balanced people who have the ability to judge fairly.

Water:

It is associated with the kidneys and bladder. The corresponding color is black, and its element is water. It is associated with courageous people who have a great capacity to fight and overcome obstacles. It also manifests as emotions, feelings, artistic inspiration, sensitivity, and adaptability. If this element is in excess, it can generate instability, sadness, and depression.

Metal:

It is associated with the lungs and large intestine. Its corresponding flavor is spicy, its associated color is white, and its element is dryness. It is characterized by logic, discipline, and structure. An excess of metal leads to coldness, cruelty, lack of communication, and repressed feelings.

Wood:

It is associated with the liver and gallbladder. Its corresponding flavor is bitter or sour, its associated color is green, and its element is wind. When the wood element is balanced, it fosters creativity, imagination, dynamism, and adventure.

Have you ever felt nauseous, had a headache, or felt dizzy after a massage session?

Don’t worry, it’s completely normal, and although it can be uncomfortable, it’s usually a sign that your body is responding to the treatment.

This discomfort is sometimes known as a “massage hangover” or healing crisis.

Here are the main reasons why this happens:

1. Release of “toxins” and metabolic waste

When a contracted muscle is worked, the massage stimulates blood circulation and the lymphatic system. This helps mobilize substances accumulated in the tissues, such as lactic acid and other metabolic waste. When these substances suddenly enter the bloodstream to be eliminated, the body may react with nausea or dizziness, similar to when you do very intense exercise after a long period of inactivity.

2. Dehydration

Massage mobilizes bodily fluids. If you’re not well hydrated, your blood is thicker, and the lymphatic system has more difficulty processing the newly released waste products. Dehydration is the number one cause of post-massage headaches.

3. Nervous System Response

During a deep tissue massage, the body transitions from a state of tension to one of deep relaxation (activating the parasympathetic nervous system). This abrupt change can temporarily lower blood pressure, causing dizziness upon standing up or a feeling of lightheadedness.

4. Muscle Micro-Trauma

If the massage was a deep tissue or muscle release massage, the therapist applied pressure to break down adhesions. This generates small, controlled inflammations in the muscles (similar to muscle soreness after the gym). This mild inflammation can manifest as a tension headache or general discomfort.

What can you do to feel better?

– Drink plenty of water: This is the most important thing. It helps your kidneys filter and eliminate everything that the massage mobilized.

– Rest:

Don’t go to the gym or do any strenuous activity immediately afterward. Give your body 24 hours to recover.

– Gentle Heat:

A warm bath can help relax your muscles.

-Stand up slowly:

To avoid dizziness from the change in pressure, sit for a minute on the edge of the examination table before standing up.
